Anoushka Probyn Personal Style Fashion Blog - Avenue 32 Shrimps Fashion Illustration

Burnt Orange Faux Fur Jacket, Sunshine Faux Fur Jacket, Matisse Blue Faux Fur Jacket, all Shrimps from Avenue 32

I first encountered Shrimps way back in 2013, in an article by fashion aficionado Alexander Fury on the fun fur trend. Back then the voluminous furs in highlighter hues seen on the catwalks seemed like just another high fashion micro-trend, doomed to slowly disappear come spring time.

However, it’s now over a year later, and judging by the plethora of street style pictures coming through daily featuring said furs, it looks like this is one trend that’s here for good.

The Shrimps aesthetic is so powerful as it embraces the qualities us fashion obsessives love most about the industry. The (faux) fur coat itself is a wardrobe staple, achieving the holy grail in winter dressing – being both chic and perennially fashionable whilst actually keeping you warm. However it’s the bold dayglo shades of orange, yellow and blue employed by designer Hannah Weiland that really make the collection pop. It could be overly kitschy, a trend for only the most out-there of bloggers and fashion wannabes. But Shrimps have made the wacky wearable, as the simplicity of the silhouettes make the collection suitable to dress down with jeans and a rock-chic scowl for front-row ready swagger.

Personally, I love it. I’ve been on the Avenue 32 website non-stop since the collection landed, lusting after their furs (I’ve got my eye on the Agnes and Baby Puss Jackets!).

I never could fully embrace the blandness of Celine-fronted normcore, or the wave of sports themed fashion brands that are having a moment in the spotlight (why would I want to wear something that serves as a continual reminder of the fact that I haven’t been to the gym in two years?). The best fashion is a bit out there, it turns heads, it stimulates imagination. Long live frivolous fashion!

    Lovely sketches!

I had the same feelings about Shrimps when I first saw a few trendsetters sporting their coats, I actually even bought one, a pink one, which I later returned because I thought it was too out there. Now that it’s winter and all I have are bland black or grey coats, I surely wish I had kept that furry gem.
