Come Summer there is nothing I like better than a spritz (drinks-wise, not everything-wise, that would be crazy). They're just so refreshing, so easy to drink, and they always look fabulous. Combine my love of Spritz's with the fact that I had a tonne of leftover grapefruit from a shoot, and bam, this cocktail recipe was born. Grapefruit isn't my favourite fruit because it's so tart, but spoiler alert, if you combine it with enough sugar and a nice fresh herb, it's pretty darn good! Oh, and plenty of alcohol, of course. I went for gin for this Grapefruit Rosemary Gin Spritz, but vodka is also a great choice with grapefruit. Topped with a hefty splash of prosecco and rose lemonade from Fentimans, and you have quite the drink on you. It's a sneaky one - doesn't seem too strong but in a large glass it definitely creeps up on you, and the rosemary garnish infuses beautifully as you drink it. So without further ado, my grapefruit rosemary gin spritz!
Grapefruit Rosemary Gin Spritz
Ingredients
- 1/2 grapefruit, juiced If you want to add a garnish you can also thinly slice extra segments
- 3 rosemary sprigs
- 4 oz gin
- 1.5 oz simple syrup
- prosecco
- rose lemonade I used Fentimans
- ice
Instructions
- Start by preparing the simple syrup. Mix equal parts water and sugar (I used granulated) in a saucepan over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Leave aside to cool.
- In a cocktail shaker muddle together a handful of rosemary leaves, grapefruit juice, and simple syrup.
- Add gin to the shaker and fill with ice. Shake for roughly 30 seconds, until shaker exterior is frosted and contents well blended.
- Pour into 2 ice filled glasses. Top with prosecco and rose lemonade.
- Optionally garnish with grapefruit slices and rosemary sprigs.
Notes
- I made this with gin but it also works well with vodka!
- If you don't have a cocktail shake a good stir will also do
