dress from free people, sandals from zara, jewellery from istanbul
I remember when I was about 10 the boho look was about the coolest thing ever, with those huge tiered maxi skirts paired with a loose belt (a chain belt if you were particularly sassy), a spaghetti strap tank and long bead necklaces. Extra points if it all came from Tammy Girl. I’m not sure if it was ever a grownup trend or if it was diluted down to be kid friendly, but man did I think I looked fly (looking back, I was wrong).
Luckily the trend has matured since then. The bohemian archetype has transitioned from the bare footed gap yah hippy to a modern well travelled and worldly woman, who likes to get lost in the dessert but makes sure she always has her iPhone handy to Instagram it all/get her back to the luxury retreat she’s staying at in time for her spa appointment.
I’m all for the contemporary 2015 hippy. The bohemian is at her best when exploring new places (#wanderlust), in flowy gowns with casually messy (but secretly super-styled) hair. In Istanbul I tried to channel this modern muse with romantic fuss-free dresses easily styled with local market jewellery finds. The Free People love affair continues with what is possibly my favourite piece, this gorgeous mustard mini dress that’s a statement in itself (good for hot lazy days when layering is not the one). You’ll also be seeing a lot of these Zara fringe sandals which I first saw on The Blonde Salad and loved, and snapped up the second they came on sale. Considering they’re so ‘trendy’ they’re surprisingly wearable, I keep on pairing them with denim as an easy way to jazz it up.
I can’t wait to share the rest of my Istanbul pictures with you, we saw and captured so many gorgeous places (and dresses!) while we were out there! However fair warning this space may be a bit quiet for the next month as I’m away on holiday (I know, I’m never home!), and can only schedule so many posts before I lose the will to live!
This is stunning, you look so beautiful!! And boy did I want (no, need) one of those boho skirts with the belt back in the day!!!
