The Best Rooftop Bars & Restaurants in Marrakech

Atay Cafe Food Marrakech Restaurant Rooftop with a view

In Marrakech, you're usually mere yards away from a rooftop bar or restaurant. The city is full of them, from rooftops hosting elevated dining restaurants, to vibey late night bars. Marrakech is a design city, so they're always impeccably chic, the kind of places you can't help snapping a photograph or two of. But beyond that, they're brilliant places to watch the sun set, and discover panoramic views of the Red City in style.

I've visited Marrakech a fair few times now, and have become well acquainted with the city's rooftop scene in the process. Over the past two trips, I've made my way around a number of the city's rooftops, from buzzing hot spots to under the radar secrets for those in the know. I thought I'd put my experience to good use and compile this guide to the very best rooftops in Marrakech.

The Best Rooftops in Marrakech

El Fenn Rooftop Review Restaurant Interior Design

El Fenn

El Fenn is the kind of "in the know", away from the tourist hub spot that you're not going to just stumble upon - but that doesn't mean it's not packed out come sunset. This happening roof terrace sits atop one of the city's best luxury design hotels. But even if you're not staying at the hotel, it's well worth finding your way to the rooftop for a drink or bite to eat, offering as it does one of the best views out over the iconic Koutoubia mosque. The sprawling terrace has multiple areas, including a bar, restaurant, and guests-only area.

We popped in for "just one drink", which soon evolved into several rounds, and a few pre-dinner bar snacks while we're at it. But the atmosphere is buzzy, yet laid back, and the cocktails are very good - making it a hard spot to leave! If you're looking to catch the sunset, I'd recommend arriving in good time, as it does get busy.

Le Table du Souk

Opulent luxury hotel La Sultana is one of Marrakech's most beautiful riads. So it's only right that the roof would host an equally beautiful rooftop. The rooftop is actually so vast that it hosts multiple spaces: the Odette rooftop bar, and elevated dining spot Le Table du Souk (pictured). Moroccan design is utilised to striking effect, with bottle green furnishings paired with matching tiles, and plenty of wicker accents. The food is exceptional, with two menus "From the Market" and "The Street Food Menu" offering a mix of modern dishes using local ingredients. It's paired with one of the more unique views on this list, overlooking the Saadian tombs.

Dar Dar Rooftop

Dardar Rooftop is one of those Marrakech spots that feels like the place to be come sunset. The DJ is spinning tunes, the canopy of Moroccan lanterns lighting up diners as they tuck into cocktails and bites as the sky turns pink. The menu is a mix of small plates and traditional Moroccan dishes given contemporary twists. Both drinks and food are done well - but you're really here for the lively party atmosphere, and incredible view.

Unlike many on this list Dardar Rooftop lives in plain sight on one of the Medina's busier thoroughfares, therefore I'd recommend booking in advance if you want to guarantee a sunset spot.

Otto

I'll be honest, I had Otto vaguely on my list to check out, but I was expecting it to sacrifice quality at the altar of trendiness. The spaces - both an indoor dining area, and alfresco rooftop - are impeccably chic, all butter yellow walls and minimal aesthetics (a rarity in Marrakech). So much so, that I was concerned that it would very much be fashion over function. Thankfully, I was happily mistaken.

Otto ended up being a surprising standout meal. My octopus with a sage infusion and citrus mayonnaise tasted as good as it looked - which is saying something, as the plating was beautiful. The half-cooked tuna with a pistachio crust had Adam raving, whilst the roasted cauliflower and truffle potatoes made the perfect accompaniments. Ultimately Otto is not just a good picture, it's a very good meal besides.

Noujoum

Stylish art-infused IZZA, a sophisticated hotel hiding in a quiet Marrakech back-alley, is not the kind of place you'd stumble upon. Those seeking it out are welcomed with sleek, elegant interiors inspired by the legacy of interior design and Marrakech resident Bill Willis. The spaces also host a vast collection of modern art, from contemporary digital work to championing local artists.

But of course, we're here for the rooftop. Hidden gem is a thoroughly overused phrase, but it rings true in the case of Noujoum, IZZA's rooftop bar and restaurant. Here the rich greens of Marrakech (though it is known as the red city, bold greens are everywhere) are used generously through tiled tables, a green bar, and plenty of foliage to frame. The food is Moroccan with hints of European and Mediterranean influence. Flavours are fresh and vibrant - the fried calamari wonderfully light, the monkfish tagine tender and elevated with hints of fennel. Noujoum may not be on the tourist trail, but that makes it one of Marrakech's best secrets.

La Fountaine Des Epices

La Fountaine des Epices is in my eyes a pretty archetypal Marrakech rooftop restaurant. The sprawling space spans several levels - though of course, you want the rooftop. There's wicker lampshades, cacti, tiles aplenty. It's a celebration of Moroccan design. Likewise the menu is traditional, with an ample selection of tajines, and plenty of other classic Moroccan dishes, as well as salads and a somewhat incongruous pasta list. It's hearty, rustic fare - certainly less elevated than some of the other entries on this list, but perfectly adequate. But the reason to visit La Fountaine des Epices is arguably not so much it's food offering, as it is the ambience once the sun sets. The venue comes alive under a canopy of lights, creating a rather magical atmosphere. Unsurprisingly, it's become a popular photo spot - but when it looks this good, can you blame us?

Mö-Mö

I spotted a photo of the colourful interiors of Mö-Mö on Instagram prior to my trip, and it immediately went to the top of my Marrakech list to check out. The main dining space is a visual feast, and a completely unique take on Moroccan design in a scheme of pastels quite unlike the usual richer hues. A joyful riot of pattern and print take centre stage - it's definitely not one for the minimalists!

I hadn't actually anticipated it being an entry to this guide, until we wandered upstairs and discovered the restaurant also hosts two floors of rooftop terraces. Looking out over Marrakech's bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa, with a backdrop of the Atlas Mountains beyond, it's one of the best views over the city. Sadly we didn't stay to check out the offering itself (next time, for sure), however I can imagine that at golden hour as the sun turns the mountains pink, it's a pretty special spot.

Nomad

When it comes to rooftops in Marrakech, Nomad is something of an institution. The OG Marrakech rooftop, it's location on the corner of one of the souk's liveliest squares offers great views for people watching the action below. The menu is all Moroccan flavours, but a whole lot more than the usual fare of tajine and pastillas. Expect zucchini fritters, lamb confit, even a Nomad burger if you're looking for something different. I'd recommend booking ahead for peak times such as sunset.

Should you have managed to work through all of these, or just be looking for more rooftop inspiration, these are a few that were on my shortlist that I didn't quite make it to:

  • L'Mida: A popular, stylish rooftop spot with a focus on Moroccan fare. Note: no alcoholic drinks available.
  • Kabana: Mediterranean vibes, cocktails and music paired with excellent Koutoubia Mosque views make Kabana a cool Marrakech hotspot.
  • Nobu Rooftop: Nobu's Marrakech outpost stands outside the Medina, with 360 degree views and a mix of dining, drinks, and live DJ sets making this the place to be come sundown.

If you're looking to explore the best rooftops in Marrakech, I hope this guide provides a solid starting point. For more Marrakech tips and advice, do make sure to check out my full Marrakech guide. And please do let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know or see in the future!
