It’s hard to imagine that there’s a hotel in Singapore that better exemplifies the dynamic energy of the city than Pan Pacific Orchard. There’s a bristle of energy the second you step up to reception, a steady stream of wide-eyed tourists and slick suited business types checking in and out. Despite being tucked away from the main concentration of tourist sights, it manages to feel like the epicentre of everything, a hub of activity so much like the city itself.
On first glance you would be forgiven for assuming it’s just another corporate hotel in yet another glossy global metropolis. However, on closer inspection, you’ll discover that Pan Pacific Orchard is rather more unique.
Bathed in swathes of green, the hotel is designed with Singapore’s “Garden City” title very much in mind. “Urban oasis” is a cliche, yet it fits. Lush plants line the lobby, swaying palms shade the pool, crawling columns of greenery provide the focal point across the hotel’s four levels.
Opened in 2023, it’s a relatively new addition to the city’s skyline. As such, it’s a thoroughly modern, purpose-built stay. There is a well stocked gym, multiple on-site dining options, and a truly one-of-a-kind hotel pool. Sustainability features are evident throughout, such as filtered water dispensers in the rooms, and the air conditioning turning off automatically when the balcony door is opened.
I stayed two nights, discovering the hotel facilities and exploring Singapore with Pan Pacific Orchard as my base. If you’re considering a stay of your own, read on for my Pan Pacific Orchard review.
Pan Pacific Orchard Review
Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel Location
Pan Pacific Orchard is set, funnily enough, in the Orchard neighbourhood of Singapore. It's known as one of Singapore's main shopping districts, Orchard Road itself brimming with designer stores and glossy malls. If you're looking to do a spot of shopping while in Singapore, you're in the right place! It's also convenient for one Singapore's top food courts, Newton Food Centre. Remember that scene in Crazy Rich Asians, when they gorge on plates of delicious looking street food? Yep, that was at Newton.
In terms of a base, it suited us nicely. There's plenty going on in terms of facilities in the nearby area, but relatively quiet at night. It's easy enough to get to other parts of town, with the Orchard MRT station roughly a 7-10 minute walk away (mostly through a mall, so there's air-con!). Anywhere that wasn't a train ride away was usually just a short Grab ride, so we were always well connected.
Design and Character
The tower housing Pan Pacific Orchard rises imposingly over the glitzy shops and offices of the swanky local neighbourhood, all glistening metal in the sticky Singapore heat. But it’s not just another corporate glass block - a closer inspection reveals the unique S-shape housing foliage-filled recreation spaces.
There are four “blocks”, each with their own name and theme. The ground floor entrance is “forest”, housing a cascading waterfall, as well as the main restaurant. It’s a striking scene, blending distinctly modern design with natural elements in a style that soon becomes clear as Pan Pacific Ochard’s signature.
The next floor up is “beach”, with a lagoon inspired pool and bar. Surrounded by meandering paths and dense foliage, it’s an impressive sight, particularly mirrored back at you from the ceiling above. It’s not uncommon for hotel design to “hero” the pool, at least aesthetically, and Pan Pacific Orchard’s is quite the statement piece.
The next floor is “garden”, a simple space with a plot of greenery and social spaces dotted around. I would have perhaps liked to have seen some more flowers or foliage to cement the theme. The highest space is “cloud”, which is an events space. As such it’s largely a blank canvas, but I can imagine it’s quite the sight when transformed for events.
The most interesting visual element within these spaces, however, is the imposing columns that rise from floor to ceiling. These living towers are lined with rich green creeper plants, and light up purple at night. The colour feels like a nod to the towering illuminated Supergrove structures at Singapore’s iconic Gardens by the Bay, or perhaps the otherworldly futuristic landscapes of Avatar.
Throughout the rest of the spaces, interiors are clean, modern and minimal. It’s simple but effective design, as attractive for couples and families exploring Singapore as it is for the many business guests the city attracts. I'd love to see the integration of some more cultural elements within the spaces, but that's just personal preference.
Rooms and Suites
We booked into a beach terrace balcony king room, which overlooks the “beach” floor. With a view out over the pool below, it’s the room to book! The star of the show is the balcony, jutting out over the pool below. As the sun goes down and the hotel lights up, you’re privy to one of the coolest views in the city.
The hotel is a fairly recent addition to Singapore’s skyline, and as such, everything feels cutting edge and considered. Not in that annoying “here’s a bunch of tech you have to figure out how to use” way. Buttons control the blinds, temperature, and do not disturb. Everything is subtly incorporated, and nothing feels gratuitous.
I often state that when it comes to truly luxury hotel stays, the difference is in the details. And at Pan Pacific Orchard, that certainly rang true. The detail that made the biggest difference for us? A filtered water tap in our room, with hot and room temperature settings, meaning no more stocking up on wasteful plastic water bottles when we headed out.
Dining at Pan Pacific Orchard
Mosella is the main restaurant at Pan Pacific Orchard, and where we enjoyed breakfast during our stay. And enjoy we most certainly did - it’s the kind of ample buffet spread that could keep you occupied trying everything for weeks. I tucked into the most delicious laksa, a range of dumplings, Indian roti and curry, as well as a varied selection of western breakfast staples. Oh, and so many good pastries! Honestly, I’m still dreaming about it.
We also indulged in a lunch at Mosella, lured in by a really strong menu of international dishes. It was one of those menus that had me agonising over what to choose, everything sounded so good! After much deliberation, we settled on the crab croquettes, suckling pig, and beef Rossini. Everything was beautifully done, with subtle flavours and sleek presentation that proved a rather refreshing change from the delicious but admittedly rather rustic street food we'd mostly been indulging in.
The hotel also hosts “Pacific Breeze” for casual bites on the ground floor, and sleek cocktail and oyster bar Florette at Garden level. Unfortunately we didn't find time to get to these - an excuse to return!
We also had access to the Pacific Club Lounge, also on the Garden level. For Pacific Club members, this space offers a more intimate breakfast experience, plus complimentary afternoon tea and cocktail hour. I appreciate the cliche of this, being British, but we decided to check out the afternoon tea. I’ll admit, it was far more exciting a spread than your usual cucumber sandwiches! There were all sorts of interesting puffs, rolls, and pastries. The highlight was the scones, perfectly moist, dense, but not stodgy, served up with cream and jam. I was dubious about scones outside the UK, but happily proven wrong.
Pan Pacific Orchard Review: The Final Word
I’ll be the first to admit that when choosing hotels, I’m often more likely to opt for smaller boutique experiences. In fact, I would say that Pan Pacific Orchard was quite a departure from my usual style of stay. But it proved to be an entirely refreshing change of pace, one that truly captures and exemplifies the dynamism of the destination itself.
Singapore is a truly global city, one of towering skyscrapers, glittering views, exemplary service and culinary experiences, and Pan Pacific served up all that and more. But it’s not just another high rise. The abundant use of greenery to create thoughtful spaces for rest, relaxation, and social interactions makes it so much more. It's a thoroughly modern, stylish stay, that makes you feel like you're experiencing the very cutting edge of vibrant Singapore.
